REQUEST FOR IMMEDIATE ESTABLISHMENT OF A POLICE POST IN SOSONI, MAGARINI CONSTITUENCY.
Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
Dr. Raymond Omollo Principal Secretary State Department for Internal Security & National Administration.
Mr. Japhet K. Kanja Inspector-General, National Police Service.
Honourable Sir(s),
Through my interactions with residents of Sosoni in Magarini Constituency, Kilifi County, I have received consistent, verifiable and deeply troubling accounts of an escalating security crisis. The situation now demands urgent, decisive intervention.
Key concerns
• Night-time burglaries of homes and shops in Sosoni area, neighbouring Majengo mapya, maasai and Ulaya have become weekly—sometimes nightly—events.
• At least one recent murder has been reported; the suspects remain at large because witnesses are too afraid to record statements.
• A house hosting students of Shujaa wa Mekatili Secondary School was recently ransacked, resulting in the loss of all food and personal belongings. No arrests have been made to date.
• Patrols are virtually non-existent. Residents report going an entire month without seeing a single police officer.
Because Sosoni lies many kilometres from the nearest stations in Marafa and Baricho, criminals act with impunity. Their identities are widely known, yet they mingle freely with their victims due to the absence of a permanent security presence. Families are now openly considering abandoning land they have occupied for decades.
Urgent requests
1. You can personally visit the area to assess the security situation on the ground and appreciate the distance between Sosoni and the nearest police facilities.
2. The immediate establishment and full staffing of a permanent police post in Sosoni, with adequate transport and logistical support to patrol surrounding villages.
The people of Sosoni are Kenyan citizens entitled to equal protection under the Constitution. I therefore respectfully urge you to treat this as a life-and-death matter and to deploy officers without delay, before the current insecurity hardens into entrenched lawlessness.
The community have confirmed that they will be ready to receive you warmly and to provide any additional evidence or testimonies you may require.
Paul Mwangi.
