UPHOLDING DIGNITY AND INTEGRITY IN THE IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS OF DEPUTY PRESIDENT IN THE SENATE.
Our esteemed Senators, as you prepare to deliberate on the impeachment motion concerning Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua this week, I urge you to approach this serious matter with the decorum and gravity it deserves. The recent behavior witnessed in the lower house during the impeachment proceedings raised significant concerns about the conduct of our elected representatives. Many, including myself, were disheartened to see our MPs engage in antics that undermined the sanctity of Parliament.
Our expectations for the Senate, as the upper house, are high. You are entrusted with the responsibility to uphold the dignity of our institutions and provide a thorough and balanced examination of this case. It is essential that you listen attentively to the arguments presented by both the mover of the motion and the Deputy President, ensuring that everything remains rooted in the specific charges brought against him without digression into unrelated issues.
In particular, I would like to address my Kilifi County Senator, Retired Justice Stewart Madzayo and Hon. Amason Kingi Jeffah former Kilifi County Governor who is also the current Senate Speaker. It is my expectation that both will leads by example to their fellow senators. As residents of the Magarini Constituency in Kilifi County we shall be watching closely to see how both the speaker and the senator and off course other senators conduct themselves throughout this exercise. There should be no heckling, no name-calling, and no fighting; every side must be given the opportunity to present their case without bias.
As I watch from my constituency in Magarini, I am hopeful that you will strive to restore faith in our legislative processes. The actions of the lower house have cast a shadow over the potential for constructive leadership in our nation. It is your duty to rise above this past conduct, demonstrating maturity, respect, and a commitment to the principles of justice and accountability.
As a young leader aspiring to serve in Parliament one day God willing, I am particularly invested in seeing our legislative bodies act in ways that reflect positively on our democracy. I believe that the discussions held in Parliament should be focused on the pressing issues that affect the public, handled with the seriousness they deserve.
Let this be an opportunity for our Senate to set a new standard for cooperation, dignity, and commitment to serving the people of Kenya. We are counting on you to lead by example, giving us all a renewed sense of hope as citizens for better governance in the future.
Hon. Paul Mwangi (PM)
Magarini Constituency.
